Why do I have to publish a legal notice in a newspaper?
California law requires certain filings — fictitious business names, name changes, probate matters, summons, and others — to be announced publicly in an adjudicated newspaper so the public has a chance to see them. The court or county then requires proof that your notice actually ran.
Which newspaper will my notice appear in?
Notices for Kern County run in the Bakersfield News Observer, published Wednesdays. Notices for Los Angeles County run in the Los Angeles News Observer, published Thursdays. Both are adjudicated newspapers of general circulation, so publication with us satisfies California requirements.
When do I need to file?
By Friday at 5:00 PM for the following week's publication.
How much does it cost?
A flat price based on your notice type — you'll see the exact amount before you pay, with no surprise fees.
How many weeks will my notice run?
That depends on the notice type. Fictitious business name statements, for example, run once a week for four consecutive weeks as California law requires. We schedule the correct run for your notice type automatically, and your confirmation shows the dates.
What do I upload?
The document you filed with the county — a PDF or even a photo of it. Our system reads it and fills in your notice for you; you review every word before paying, and our staff reviews it again before it prints.
What is a proof of publication and when do I get it?
It's the newspaper's sworn statement that your notice ran on the required dates. For fictitious business name statements, we file the proof of publication with the County Clerk for you — and we keep the filed copy on record for five years, so you can always request a copy if you need one. For other notice types, we email your proof of publication after your notice completes its run.
I made a mistake on my notice — can I fix it?
Email help@ognsc.com with your confirmation number as soon as possible. If your notice hasn't published yet, we'll correct it at no charge. If a notice has already printed with incorrect information that was provided to us, the law requires it to be published again — that re-publication is charged at the regular price.
Can I cancel and get a refund?
Yes — if you cancel before your first publication date, you'll receive a full refund minus the card transaction fee. Once a notice has begun publishing, it cannot be refunded.
